A glamping Christmas: Best UK glamping sites open all-year round
Published on: Nov 24 2021

Fancy doing something different and just a little magical for Christmas this year? Go glamping! There’s nothing better than curling up in cosy, heated glamping accommodation while the snow falls gently outside, before tucking into your Christmas dinner. Winter glamping breaks also tend to be quieter, so you can get all that beautiful, idyllic nature to yourself.

Here’s our guide to the best UK glamping sites open at Christmas:

Hill Top Huts

Teesdale, County Durham

Venture round the back of the charming Moorcock Inn in Teesdale in Middleton, and you’ll find a collection of adorable glamping pods. Named after game birds and wildlife, including Red Grouse, Pheasant and Dales Pony, each of the 12 pods have comfy beds, electricity, heating and kitchen facilities.

The site offers panoramic views across the countryside, and a choice of walks perfect for those wonderfully crisp winter mornings. As an added incentive, the delights of the Moorcock Inn’s home-cooked menu are just a few steps away. You might even be able to sit down to a delicious Christmas dinner with the family.

The Wildings

Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire

This beautiful rural site on the edge of one of Britain’s most visited villages has a choice of glamping accommodation available over winter – including yurts and pods. The latter is the better choice in colder conditions, as The Wildings’ glamping pods come with full insulation, heating, lights and electricity. You can even add luxury extras such as tableware and celebration hampers, perfect for making your Christmas glamping experience a little more special.

There’s an on-site mini farm shop, pizza ovens available to hire (in case you fancy a change from turkey), children’s play equipment and many other facilities. And it’s all within steps of the rolling countryside of the Cotswolds.

Lodge on a Lake

Cardiff, Glamorgan

These lakeside lodges just 15 minutes from Cardiff may be stretching the definition of glamping a little, but they’re simply fabulous – and a perfect choice for a festive break. You get to stay right on the water’s edge of the Cefn Mably Lakes, surrounded by the stunning Welsh countryside.

Inside each cosy wooden cabin is a comfortable double bed, bathroom and fully fitted kitchen. What’s more, you’ll even get your own private cedar wood hot tub. Heaven!

Hayton Hideaway

Carlisle, Cumbria

This picturesque glamping site offers a taste of the Cumbrian countryside at its best, especially in frosty, crisp winter. There are five luxury timber pods to choose from at Hayton Hideaway, each with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. Outside your locally crafted cabin, you can step out onto a private veranda with fire pit and barbecue. One of the pods even has its own hot tub, while others offer a sun room so you can enjoy the spectacular views whatever the season.

There’s lots to see and do in the local area, including woods, rivers and landmarks like Castle Carrock and the wonders of the Lake District National Park.
